| This was one of my two entries painted on location for the Paint Annapolis 2008 plein air competition, and was given an Award of Merit from judge Mark Karnes of Maryland Institute College of Art. The painting also took First Place in the Maryland Federation of Art Fall 2008 "Timeless Annapolis" show. We were fortunate to have beautiful, rich light to paint by all week long. Late in the afternoon on the first day of the competition, I found a shady spot under the Annapolis-Eastport drawbridge and this wonderful view of boats and masts. As I quickly painted the scene, the light became the perfect painter's light, thus the title. |
