This was painted during the Plein Air Easton 2009 competition and is one of the two ponds on the Jellich property in Trappe, Maryland, owned by a landscape designer. I was attracted to the high contrast of the lights and darks in this subject. Nearly half of the blackwater pond was covered by a brilliant green weed, and the lovely pink lotus flowers were beginning to bloom.
